The following 'Frequently Asked Questions' have been developed with you in mind. If you are unable to find the answer to your question here please contact us directly.
---------------------------------------------------------What format is the file I've received?
The file you have is a compressed Zip Archive. You will need to uncompress/extract/copy the contents to your desktop. This should be reasonably straight forward (just double click on its icon). Once done either double click on the Internet Explorer icon for the file named ' PC_BuytoLet_Calc ' or the Powerpoint version. Either will open the calculator - it is provided in two separate formats use either. To operate the powerpoint version you will need to run the file as a slide show - select 'view slide show' from the 'slide show menu' or press F5 on your keyboard. When I try to run the calculator Internet Explorer gives me an 'Active Content' warning. What does this mean and what should I do?
Active content is content that relies on either ActiveX controls or
computer code called a script to work properly. Examples include stock
tickers, video, and animated content on Web pages. These programs can,
however, malfunction or give you content you don’t want. Given these
risks, you should only install these programs if you completely trust
the publisher.
To run the calculator simply click on the warning and select to 'Allow
Blocked Content' as seen above. From the subsequent warning select 'Yes'
to run.
How can I avoid this problem in the future?
In Internet Explorer go to the 'Tools' menu select 'Internet Options' click on the 'Advanced' tab on the far right, then scroll down the list till you reach the 'Security' settings. Here select the option 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'. Click 'Apply' and 'OK'.What do I get for my purchase?
As part of your purchase of the Buy-to-Let Investment Calculator, you'll receive the calculator itself as a dynamic webpage, and powerpoint file (you choose the way you want to run it), a free copy of the 'Online Buy-to-Let Search Guide (UK)' which includes a free guide to 'Understanding Investment Ratios', free product upgrades with proof of purchase and a 100% Money Back Guarantee.
What is Yield / Return on Capital Employed / Net Return on Captial Employed and how do I interpret them?
Please refer to the included 'Online Buy-to-Let Search Guide (UK)' which contains a section on 'Understanding Investment Ratios'.
What is the difference between the Anticipated Monthly Profit Gross & Net?
The 'Anticipated Monthly Profit' Gross is the rental income less the interest only mortgage payment. The 'Net' alternative to this takes into consideration all those other expense variables provided in the software.
I'm unclear as to what some of these terms mean?
Please refer to the Online Glossary of Buy-to-Let Terms for further explanation of all the terms used.
Do you offer a version of the Calculator for PDA devices?
Due to the inconsistency in versions of Macromedia Flash player used across PDA devices and PCs we have discontinued our PDA version for the time being. We intend re-releasing this towards the end of 2007 when Adobe (new owners of Macromedia Flash format) standardise their Flash application across all devices. Stay tuned.
I'm having problems playing Flash content since I upgraded to Internet Explorer v.7?
The basic explanation seems to be upgrading to IE 7 works most of the time flawlessly. However in a small handfull of cases the upgrade corrupts the Adobe/Macromedia Flash plugin to IE 7. The only solution being to uninstall the plugin, download a new stand alone copy and reinstall. Try this link for the latest download of the Flash plugin. Have a look at this link also - it was one of the more comprehensive documentations of the fault.
